The Weyburn Iron Pigs opened up their QVBL second-round playoff series against the Regina Dodgers Thursday night in Regina. While Eric Evans had a strong start on the mound, going the distance and striking out 12 in six innings of work, the Dodgers managed to find a way to bring in runs, including five in the fourth inning, en route to a 6-3 victory in game one of the best-of-three match-up.

Evans would throw 121 pitches over the six innings of work, allowing four earned runs. While striking out the 12 batters, he didn’t give up any walks but did allow 12 hits.

The runs for the Iron Pigs came in the fourth and fifth innings. The first was when Brad Weisgerber hit into a double play that allowed Mike Onstad to score from third base. Then, in the fifth inning, Evan Schultz was brought in on a sacrifice fly by Troy Miller, and Luke Niemegeers would cash in Adam Ziegler on a line drive single to right field.

The second game of the series is set to be played in Weyburn, at Tom Laing Field, but the date has yet to be determined.
