The City of Weyburn's Permanent Art Collection is celebrating its 50th year in 2024, and City Curator Regan Lanning said she's making social media posts to feature some of the 'favourites' in the collection.

"The collection now sits at over 300 works of art featuring works by both local and provincial artists, and even a few international ones," said Lanning during the reception for the James Weir People's Choice on March 22nd.

"The collection started way back in 1974 with a work by Cornelius Kievits being purchased by the Weyburn Arts Council," she shared. "Our collection is rather rare. Very few communities have a public art collection."

The social media campaign kicked off last Monday, and Lanning said she is currently curating an exhibition featuring works from the collection.

"They will be displayed in a manner that highlights the way that many of these works are connected through the people that created them," she noted. "I believe this exhibition will be a gorgeous collection of works from 1926 to 2024, while also being an intriguing look behind the curtain at the ties that bind and the community that artists create for themselves."

She added the exhibition will be going on display at the Weyburn Art Gallery this fall. Find more of the official details on the City's website HERE.
