The Weyburn MMA club was part of the Western Kids Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition in Regina this weekend.

Coached by Steve Schuck and Tara Day, the club managed to bring home 15 medals in the competition that combines aspects of freestyle wrestling and judo.

Atlas Fredrickson led the way taking gold in both Gi(meaning in a kimono akin to a traditional judo uniform) and No-Gi (shorts and t-shirt uniform) divisions. Carter Dorgan, Knox Teske, Valeriia Chorna, and Ava Chapman also took gold in the Gi divisions while Brynn Ward picked up gold in the no-gi.

Nikolas Nikulin, Carter Dorgan, Harley-Quinn Fredrickson, and Kabela Tese all brought home silver medals while Brynn Ward, Kabela Teske, and Gabriel Brock all secured bronze medals.

Members from the MMA club noted that this was an outstanding performance that reflects the students' commitment to excellence but also underscores the thriving martial arts community in Weyburn.
