The Purchase of Sonic Oilfield Services of Weyburn and Kindersley over the Christmas break was the first for Vertex but not the last.

In an announcement yesterday, Vertex said they have now acquired HMA Land Services, a Land Consulting Company with experience in large midstream utility and mineral land services across both coasts of Canada.

"With this acquisition and additional expertise, well be able to offer land consulting and public consultations and ultimately more local employment opportunities for the people of Weyburn."

"Having a large entity like Vertex come into the area and promote local businesses or work with local entities and then be able to hire locally as well, a huge advantage for the community I feel."

It has been reported that the oil industry is picking up in Southeast Saskatchewan this year.

"I think With the increased opportunity in Saskatchewan, we've seen activity levels pick up, activity levels, I feel like we've seen more hiring in the industry. So I think 2018 represents a growth year for the industry."

"Everybody's hope for 2018 is a renewed optimism that we haven't seen in the last couple of years. I am hoping that 2018 continues for us and the industry as it has kicked off to be so far."

Winters also said the purchase of HMA is part of a strategy for Vertex to take advantage of growth opportunities. They look for companies that have a strong reputation that is not necessarily being utilised.

"So there are some efficiencies that can be created by working as the larger entity that has more resources and more customer base."

Winters thanked the staff to help make the purchase of HMA possible.
