There's two weeks left until the 36th Annual Weyburn and District United Way Communithon which raises funds for 14 member agencies.

Over the next two weeks, we'll be taking a look at the agencies and how they benefit from this event. Today we look at the Weyburn Community Low Income Centre.

"We're actually an advocate agency that provides a lot of services for people that are falling through the cracks," said Director Fred Sandeski.

He noted that last year they helped over 200 people fill out and file their taxes and roughly 100 people used their free legal clinic.

"It's getting legal advice that you wouldn't get anywhere else," he said. "A lot of my clients wouldn't be able to afford these areas or access them."

The Low Income Centre has been a registered charity for 13 years and Sandeski noted that it takes at least $12,000 just to keep the doors open every year.

"When we can provide services for these people so they're not falling through these cracks, they actually become more productive individuals for our whole community," said Sandeski. "I think that itself is worth the $12,000."

This years Communithon is looking to raise $140,000 to be shared across the member agencies. It runs October 20th with the Concert Jam on October 21st.
