Dozens of volunteers helped clean up Weyburn's downtown core Saturday during the annual Mayor's Clean-up, led by Mayor Marcel Roy.

Individuals, businesses and groups were out cleaning the streets. Many City officials also lent a hand sweeping sidewalks and picking up debris, including Councillors Dick Michel and Mel Van Betuw and members of the Weyburn Fire Department.

The local Girl Guides brought out around 25 volunteers to clean the downtown area. Meagan Dillen with the fourth Weyburn Brownies said their group believes in helping out the community.

"Every year the Girl Guides of Canada do a yearly clean-up so usually we pick a day and it happens that our day coincides with the City this year which is really nice because then we get out there and we see the people and they get to know what we do," said Dillen with the fourth Weyburn Brownies.

The volunteers were treated to a hot dog lunch after the clean-up.

Meagan Dillen and a few of the Girl Guides cleaned up the downtown core, picking up hundreds of cigarette butts.
