After falling 6-2 in the opening game of the Canalta Cup finals, the Melfort Mustangs were looking to bounce back against the Battlefords North Stars Saturday. They did, thanks to a strong performance in net from Shawn Parkinson.

The Mustangs evened the best-of-seven series up with a 1-0 win.

Parkinson stopped all 28 shots he faced in picking up the shutout, his first of the playoffs. The Victoria, B.C. native has improved his GAA in the postseason now to 1.64, with a save percentage of .938.

Jake Hobson was the hero in the game. He scored the lone goal, his fifth of the playoffs, at the 11:17 mark of the second period. His tally was assisted by Kayle Tosh.

Battlefords netminder Joel Grzybowski was strong in the net himself. He turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced. His numbers for the playoffs continue to be out of this work, with a 1.41 GAA, and a .958 save percentage.

With the series now tied 1-1, the two teams will travel to Melfort for games three and four. They will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. Game five will be Friday night in North Battleford.
