The Weyburn Beavers accomplished a feat Friday night they hadn't done since July 26th of last year, picking up a shutout at home as they routed the Yorkton Cardinals 11-0. Drake Pilat had three RBI while starting pitcher Chase Stratton pitched seven innings, striking out eight and allowing three hits.

"Beau (Rabedeaux), one of our coaches, just came in and talked to me and (catcher) Tristan about a game plan, and it was just throw fastballs until we know they can beat us," Stratton said after the game.

The Beavers took advantage of pitching miscues from the Cardinals to gather runs quickly, scoring three in the first inning. The first came on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. It was followed up by a ground out RBI from Dominic Bravo and a sacrifice fly courtesy of James McCallum.

In the second inning, Drake Pilat smacked a double to left field with the bases loaded, which brought in three runs, putting Weyburn up 6-0 after just two innings.

Defensively, the Cardinals were limited to few chances to get on base. The first hit came on a controversial call by the first base umpire. Matthew Korman put the ball along the first base line, and the first base umpire signalled it was foul as the ball struck his leg and rolled towards the Beavers bullpen. The home plate umpire signalled it was fair, however, it was too late as the Beavers players had given up on the play based on the signal from the first base umpire. Before the Beavers were able to recover the ball, Korman reached third.

The runner in scoring position would be for not, as the next batter hit into a ground out.

Weyburn would add to the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Garrett Perez. In the sixth, the Beavers would add four more runs after Rodriguez knocked a double to centre field which brought in two runs, shortly after a wild pitch scored Bravo.

The Beavers struck out just six times, a departure from some earlier games this season, where they have struck out as many of 15 times.

"We're really trying to brush up their two-strike approach," said Rabedeaux after the game when asked about the strikeouts. "It showed tonight."

The Beavers will look to extend their winning streak to seven games Saturday night as they head up to Yorkton for a pair of games over the weekend.
