The final stretch of the 2017 WMBL regular season is here, and the Weyburn Beavers are still chasing first in the East Division.

The Beavers locked up a playoff spot last week, and are now chasing down the top two teams in the division, just a game and a half out of first place. The Regina Red Sox are currently in first, and the Swift Current 57’s are right behind, a half-game back.

Weyburn has six games remaining in the regular season, with four of them at home. They play Moose Jaw Tuesday night, Melville Wednesday, and Thursday Regina is in town.

The two road games are Friday and Saturday, as they head to Moose Jaw and Yorkton. The Cardinals then come back to Tom Laing Park Sunday for the final regular season game for the Beavers.

In terms of strength of schedule over the remaining games of the season, the Beavers will be playing the bottom three teams of the division five of their six remaining games. They have a perfect record so far this season against Yorkton, having won all six previous matchups. The Beavers have won three of the previous four games against Moose Jaw, but have not seen the Miller Express since June 20th. The Melville Millionaires, who are in town Wednesday, have had the number of the Beavers. They have won four of the five games so far this season.

As for Regina, their five remaining games for 2017 will see them playing Swift Current twice, Weyburn once, and Moose Jaw once, with the final game of the season against Melville. The Red Sox will have a tough slog as they try to keep their slight hold on first in the WMBL East.

The 57’s have five games on the schedule remaining as well. They host Yorkton for a pair of games, then play Regina twice, finally visiting Moose Jaw for the final game of the season.

With the race for first being so tight it is still anyone’s guess as to how things will end up. It will mean a final week of exciting baseball in the WMBL regular season.
