A common theme last week for the Weyburn Police Service was drivers who blew warnings at roadside, subsequently receiving three-day license suspensions and vehicle impoundment.

Sergeant Shane St. John said they encourage people to plan a safe ride home before going out for the night.

"That's where someone would do poorly on FST, that's the standardized roadside test, so they do poorly enough to get a three day suspension, but not badly enough to get an impaired," he explained. "They go through the the roadside like you see on TV, then they have a scale that they go on to know, 'this person has had too much' and should not be driving."

He said the police, nonetheless, would rather you leave your car at home and take a cab home.

"If you can't find the cab or you're freezing, just phone us and you know if we're not busy, we'll assist, but we don't want to take business away from the cabs either. That's not fair to them, so we're not just gonna wait there and like if people come to the police car and we're sitting around just watching the bars okay, can I ride well, no you gotta take a cab."
