Saskatchewan's March Unemployment figures are in, and all things considered, they're respectable...if a little bit flat.

The monthly numbers provided by Statistics Canada's Centre for Labour Market Information, show a province that fell a mere 0.1 percent between March and February; with March's unemployment figure clocking in at 7.8 percent versus February's 7.7.

That number was good enough, however, to leap-frog Quebec and claim the third-lowest number in the nation behind Manitoba and British Columbia.

It should also be mentioned that those numbers as released, differ from numbers released by the governing Sask Party early in March. Looking at the Saskatchewan.ca employment dashboard, their figures are given as a "seasonally adjusted" rate of 7.4 percent.

Regardless of which numbers one looks at, Manitoba led the pack in March, improving their number to 7.2 percent. They also had the lowest percentage in February and in March of 2020.

Nationally, meanwhile, the unemployment rate took a bit of a hit, dropping 2 percentage points to 8.8 percent from 6.8 percent last year.

While Saskatchewan saw a drop of its own, it was less precipitous, coming in at just under 1 percentage point; registering 6.9 percent in March of 2020.

The next update from the provincial government is expected on May 7, 2021. Stats Canada figures are usually released around the same time.
