The first real thaw of the year tends to have people thinking ahead to what it will be like when the weather truly gets warm in the late spring and summer. This includes looking at plans such as taking vacations or going camping.

At Minard’s Leisure World in Weyburn, they are used to seeing an uptick in interest, but this year, things have been even busier than normal.

“The interest is really strong,” said Susan Minard, the owner of Minard’s Leisure World. “When it turns this nice, I think it puts a smile on everybody’s faces, ours, yours, everyone, because we are all so waiting for spring and being able to get outside.”

The increase in business isn’t just when the temperatures turn warm, though. Minard stated they were busy throughout the month of February, even during the cold snap that saw extreme cold warnings issued for much of the province. The increased demand has Minard giving some advice for those who are looking at purchasing an RV.

“Shop early, as in now,” she explained. “Inventory’s just a struggle – inventory is going to be hard to get and we have lots and lots on order,” Minard added she has never seen the demand like this, this early in the year.

The demand for RVs is carrying over to service. Now is the time of year when many RV owners are looking at getting service done in anticipation of the upcoming camping season. Minard pointed out that this is the time to get the service taken care of, but did offer a caveat, as parts are, in many cases, need to be ordered in due to the high demand.

“Parts are hard to get, so if you have any issues at all, make a phone call for sure, because maybe we can order without even seeing the unit so we can do the work when it comes, but yes, the sooner the better. Definitely.”

The warm weather is expected to continue through the weekend before things settle back into more seasonal temperatures early next week.
