Weyburn high school graduates from all across Canada converged at the Cugnet Centre last night to register for Reunion 2016.

Organizer Brad Blakley said around 1,200 former students and guests are planning to attend the weekend events. The registry showed around 650 former Weyburn Comprehensive School and Weyburn Collegiate Institute grads came out to register Friday evening and enjoy the performance "through the decades" by show band March Hare. Those grads attending certainly ranged across the decades, with most of those registered at the event (over 250) having graduated in the 1970s. The '60s and '80s grads were close behind with around 160 registered each. The '50s and under grads had a decent showing of 43. The '90s grads showed under 30 registered and the '00s were at less than 10.

One grad definitely stood out, according to Blakley. "We got a grad coming in from 1936 and she's...98 years old, so that's the oldest grad we have."

The evening was kept lively as well as informative with a slide show of Weyburn history given by MCs Trenna Keating and Darren Neuberger. Keating is an actress and Comp grad of '96 and Neuberger is an author and Comp grad of '86. Both said they were happy to come back home for the event and honoured to host the evening.

The festivities continue today and tomorrow. March Hare will perform at the dance tonight, as well as former student Brent Mann and local band Switch. Tickets are available at the door.
