The RM of Browning now has a vacant seat on their council following the resignation of Ben Kautz.

Kautz had been the councilor for Division No. 4 in the RM, but stepped down from the position on Wednesday after posting inappropriate and controversial comments on social media following the shooting death of Colton Boushie (22) west of Saskatoon in the RM of Glenside.

Boushie, a member of the Red Pheasant First Nation, was killed after the vehicle he was in drove onto a farm property owned by Gerald Stanley (54). Stanley has been charged with second-degree murder, has plead not guilty and was granted bail on August 19th.

A screenshot of the post made by Kautz to a Saskatchewan farmers group on Facebook has been made public and resulted in the resignation.

Reeve Pius Loustel confirmed Kautz's resignation on Wednesday afternoon, and says they will be putting out a call for nominations within a week to fill the vacant seat.

On their website, the council for the RM of Browning thanked Kautz for his years of dedicated service to the RM. As well as his volunteering on several boards, committees and associations of the community.
