It will be a busy night for Weyburn City Council when they meet Monday night for their first meeting of April. The meeting, which was originally scheduled to be held in chambers at City Hall, was moved to a virtual meeting last week due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the Weyburn area.

There will be a number of regular reports which will be before the council. These include reports from the water treatment plant, the public works department and the building department. There will also be a report to the council from the Police Commission.

Council will also vote on a number of various projects that were put out for requests for proposal. This includes a water main replacement along Allen Street, various water and wastewater infrastructure projects, and the dredging of the lagoons. All of these projects were included in the 2021 budget which was approved by the council earlier in the year.

Council will also revisit a motion that had been tabled at the last meeting for concrete work to be done. The motion was tabled to allow for the engineering department to provide further information on the tender process, as a motion to amend the original tender was put forward by Councillor Mel Van Betuw to disregard the recommendation of administration and award the contract to a local company who had not met the requirements of the bid.

The information being brought forward includes details about the tender process, and what the city bylaws state for the process to be followed, which includes a preference to the lowest priced bid, provided they meet all of the requirements for the tender and submit all needed information for the tender.

There will also be a new member of the Weyburn Airport Board appointed at the meeting.

We will have full coverage of the meeting Monday night, on-air and online, starting Tuesday morning.
