Replacement of the water main and sewer line connections along Government Road is almost wrapped up, but resurfacing plans have been delayed.

Pressure testing is underway for the completion of the project as far as the underground infrastructure is concerned, but the full resurfacing will not be completed this fall as per the original plan.

“The plan was fully milling and paving it this year,” said City Engineer Nader Keshta. “We got a recommendation from the contractor, ASL Paving, that it’s not favourable, especially in those longitudinal trenches, the wide trenches, that any way it will settle.”

“We don’t want to end up with a project done this year and next spring there will be a settlement in the paving, so the best course of action will be to do some patching this year for asphalt for giving the residents a surface for driving,” he explained.

Keshta said the full resurfacing will be done in May, to be completed before the Oil Show.

“Weather permitting, we’ll do the milling and paving for the rest of this stretch,” he said. “It could be done this year, but there is a probability that it may settle or not, but in order not to take a risk, we’ll just push it for next year.”

He added the City will do some building of the base and sub-base for the roads this year, with asphalt for driving.
