In Sunday's COVID-19 update from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, they reported 289 new cases of the virus in the province.

The new cases are:

  • Far North West (9),
  • Far North East (2),
  • North West (21),
  • North Central (12),
  • North East (2),
  • Saskatoon (32),
  • Central West (7),
  • Central East (26),
  • Regina (106),
  • South West (6),
  • South Central (15) and
  • South East (41) zones. 

Ten cases have pending residence information.

189 people remain in the hospital.  144 are receiving inpatient care while 45 are in intensive care with the majority of those in Saskatoon and Regina at 10 and 30 respectively.

There was one new death, this time of a resident in the 50-59 age group in the North Central zone.  That brings the total number of deaths in Saskatchewan to 465.


Variants of Concern (VoC)

There are 4,644 variants of concern identified in the province at the moment.  206 more "lineage results" were posted today.  Of the 1,918 VoCs that have been identified and confirmed via genome sequencing, the vast majority are the U.K. B.1.1.1.7 variant, while only 9 are the South African B.1.351 variant.

The Regina area accounts for 74 percent of all VOC cases with confirmed lineages.


 Vaccine Distribution:

Saskatchewan continued its vaccination efforts on Sunday, with an additional 11,063 doses administered.  Bringing the total number of vaccinations administered to 345,126.

The doses were administered in:

  • Far North West (28),
  • Far North Central (9),
  • Far North East (58),
  • North West (638),
  • North Central (925),
  • North East (170),
  • Saskatoon (3,003),
  • Central West (129),
  • Central East (766),
  • Regina (2,624),
  • South West (203),
  • South Central (1,270) and
  • South East (997). 

According to government statistics, 49 percent of Saskatchewan residents over the age of 40 have now received their first dose.
