The SJHL/MJHL Showcase opened up at the Co-operators Centre in Regina Tuesday, with 60 of the top players from the SJHL taking on 60 of the top players from the MJHL. Over the course of the Showcase, the two leagues will be playing six games against each other.

To start off the Showcase, Team Kunitz from the SJHL took on Team Belfort from the MJHL Tuesday morning. The SJHL squad was looking to keep the domination the SJHL has had over the previous two Showcases, where they won 9 of the previous 12 games.

The tight game to start the showcase would see the lone goal scored in the third period, when a Kade McMillen (Estevan Bruins) point shot was tipped by Jared Hamm (Notre Dame Hounds) in front of the MJHL goal, giving the SJHL a 1-0 victory.

Melville Millionaires' goaltender Berk Berkeliev would get the shutout in goal.

In the second game of the day, Team Zajac of the MJHL took on Team Mitchell of the SJHL. This time, it would be the Manitoba team coming away with the victory, as three third period goals helped lift Team Zajac to a 4-1 win.

The goals for the Manitoba squad came from Grady Hobbs (Dauphin Kings), Tanner Andrew (Virden Oil Capitals), Conrad Phillips (Waywayseecappo Wolverines) and Carter Sawchuk (Dauphin Kings). The lone goal for the SJHL was scored by Donovan Houle-Villeneuve (Flin Flon Bombers).

The final game of the opening day was the young guns game, with Team Schwartz from the SJHL against Team Garbutt of the MJHL. The Manitoba team came out flying and would skate to a 5-2 victory.

Team Garbutt had their goals scored by Brayden Foreman (Winnipeg Blues), Caiden Gault (Selkirk Steelers), Jayden McCarthy (Winkler Flyers), and Mitchell Joss (Winnipeg Blues). Gault had two goals in the game.

The two goals for Team Schwartz were scored by Tristan Shewchuk (Humboldt Broncos) and Aaron Greyeyes (La Ronge Ice Wolves).

The Showcase will resume Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m. Team Kunitz will play Team Zajac. Then, Team Belfour will take on Team Mitchell, followed by a rematch between Team Schwartz and Team Garbutt.
