The Pee Wee Young Fellow Wings took the first game of their best of three opening round series against the Estevan Bruins Wednesday night. The Wings picked up a 4-3 victory on the road.

Weyburn opened the scoring in the first period when Carter Gervais scored an unassisted goal with 11:39 remaining on the clock.

The deficit didn’t deter the Bruins, and they would come out in the second period with three quick goals. Turner Jacobson, Ryker Mathison and Sutter Baily all scored in a 1:21 span to push the home team out to a 3-1 lead.

Weyburn wasn’t phased, though.

Conner Kerr scored at the 6:45 mark of the second period, making it a 3-2 game. Bennett McCarthy assisted on the goal. Then, Kaden MacLean, assisted by Vlad Szczecinski tied the game up 3-3 with 8:47 remaining.

Before the second period was over, Weyburn would regain the lead with a goal from Silas Stein. Cruz Klapak had the assist on the tally which made it a 4-3 game.

In the third period, Weyburn goalie J’Anne Colbow was perfect, allowing Weyburn to jump out to an early series lead.

Game two of the best of three series will be in Weyburn on Saturday at Crescent Point Place. Game three, if necessary, will be in Estevan on Sunday.
