As the result of a traffic stop on April 26th, a man was charged with several weapons offences and for possession of a controlled substance.

"This was an incident where an officer on patrol late Thursday night, in the very early morning hours of Friday, had observed a suspicious vehicle that appeared like he had a bunch of stuff in the back of the truck box," explained Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype.

He said the officers conducted a traffic stop, "and the result was they discovered that there was a makeshift firearm among some other weapons and some contraband."

"The prohibited weapon or the makeshift firearm was visible to the officer while he was talking to the individual driving the vehicle. The officer noticed that while talking to the driver,"  he clarified.

In addition to a makeshift firearm, a prohibited knife was also seized.

VanDeSype added that the man was also in possession of a small amount of a controlled substance.

He was charged with enough offenses that he was released on conditions in front of a Justice of the Peace, with an upcoming court date.
