Weyburn Minor Ball is looking for people to join their team as future umpires for the potential upcoming season.

However, with the recent rise in COVID-19 numbers in the Weyburn area they will be doing all of their training virtually.

"So with Saskatchewan Level 1 and 2 Umpiring they are doing all the registration online this year as well as the clinics," stated Gord Husband, Umpire Recruiter for Weyburn Minor Ball. "Clinics are going to run every Saturday this month for about three hours and anybody that's interested in umpiring baseball in the city of Weyburn can contact myself. Then we will get you set up to do the clinics so you are able to umpire baseball when the season starts up."

There are two more clinics this month that will be taking place on April 17th and 24th.

You must first register with Baseball Saskatchewan and arrange for payment of your registration fee for the upcoming season. There are options available for those whose minor ball associations usually pay their fees and for those who pay their own fees.

Once you have completed your provincial registration, you then must go to a separate site to register for your clinic and choose a date to attend your virtual level 1 or level 2 clinic. These clinics are about 3 hours in length and there are live instructors available during the clinic session to answer your questions.

"We're just trying to recruit as many umpires as possible in all age groups," Husband added. "Even if you have an interest in baseball but have never been an umpire. This is a great way to get involved with the game and we definitely make sure that we set all of our umpires up for success. If it's your first time umpiring we'll get you to work with our younger age groups and if you are more of a veteran umpire then we'll get you to do some of our higher involvement baseball that we'll have happening in the city this year."
