The snow may have stopped falling, but it is still having an impact on the highways and roads throughout southeast Saskatchewan.

The highways in the Weyburn area are being reported as having packed snow, as well as ice and slippery sections, as crews try to keep up with Mother Nature. This includes Highways 39, 13 and 35 in both directions. Travel is still not recommended on some highways in the area as well.

Travel is not recommended on Highway 47 from the Handsworth Road intersection to the Trans-Canada, while travel isn’t recommended on Highway 48 from near Peebles to Kennedy. Closures on the Trans-Canada between Qu'Appelle and Wolseley and Moosomin to the Manitoba border were lifted just before 9:00 a.m., although travel still isn’t recommended from Wolseley to Whitewood.

Conditions are expected to steadily improve throughout the day as plows are able to get out onto the highways. Warming temperatures are also expected to help, but as temperatures dip below freezing in the evening, it could cause highways to ice back up again.
