A five game winning streak, and second place overall in the SJHL. It was a good weekend for the Weyburn Red Wings, and they are getting national recognition for it.

The team is ranked 19th in the nation, according to the latest Top 20 rankings released by the CJHL Monday. The CJHL is the overseeing body for Junior A hockey in Canada, and represents 132 teams in ten leagues.

This is the first time this season the Red Wings have received the recognition from the CJHL in the rankings. With a record of 8-3-0-1, the Wings are first in the Viterra Division, and 2nd overall in the league. So far in the month of October, the Wings are 5-1, outscoring their opponents 27-17 in that stretch.

The Humboldt Broncos, who are first in the league, are ranked 15th in the CJHL weekly rankings. The Broncos have a two point edge over the Wings for top spot in the SJHL.

The SJHL also named their players of the week Monday. Nathan Hargrave, who has carried the bulk of the work in net for the Red Wings, was named runner up for Goaltender of the Week, behind Notre Dame netminder Jordan Greenfield-Flemon. The Player of the Week is Ben Duperreault of the Hounds. The defenseman of the week was Connor Swystun of the Humboldt Broncos, and the Rookie of the Week is Erik Gardiner, also with the Humboldt Broncos.
