The Weyburn Police Service had a fairly quiet night Saturday, as residents of Weyburn rang in the New Year. They are reporting that while the city was lively at local establishments, house parties, and in terms of traffic, everyone seemed to be well-behaved from a police perspective.

They still had a few calls they responded to over the past week. Here are some of the highlights from the weekly police report.

December 27th

Around 10:30 p.m.,  police responded to a report of a break & enter in progress on the 100 Block of 11th Street.  As police were arriving at the residence the suspect fled in a vehicle and was pursued a very short distance, where he became stuck in some snow.  The 43-year-old male driver was arrested without incident and is now facing charges of mischief, flight from police, refusing to take a breath test, possession of cocaine and marijuana and breach of an undertaking.  Police had earlier dealt with this man over a domestic issue, and he was remanded in Custody.

December 28th

The Weyburn Police are investigating a complaint of a hit & run vehicle collision occurring in the 100 Block of 4th Street. A witness was able to provide a plate number of the offending vehicle and the matter is under active investigation.

December 30th

Police were called to assist a 30-year-old woman in retrieving personal property from her former residence.  The assistance was given with no issues arising.

January 1st

The Weyburn Police Service received information that a 35-year-old man had been assaulted by a 56-year-old man. The victim had been located by the RCMP, and taken to hospital where he later left against medical advice.  The matter is still under investigation.

While on patrol at one of the bars, members of the Weyburn Police Service witnessed a minor altercation between two patrons. Police were able to intervene before the matter got out of hand and assisted each person in getting home safely.

Around 1:30 a.m., a traffic stop on the 300 block of Railway Avenue resulted in a 22-year-old man being issued a ticket for driving while suspended. His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.
