The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are off to a hot start and will be looking to continue that tonight as they host the Notre Dame Hounds at Crescent Point Place. With points in all four games so far this season, and a three-game winning streak, this is the best start to a season for the Red Wings since the 2015-16 season, when they won three of their first four, with the only loss coming in overtime.

A big key to the success of the Red Wings has been the play of Dazza Mitchell, who received goalie of the week honours for the second week in a row from the league on Monday. Mitchell allowed just three goals against the Estevan Bruins in a pair of games, which helped lift the team to their record. So far this season, Mitchell is carrying a league-leading goals-against average of 1.18 and a save percentage of .964. Those numbers are second best in the country, with only Luca Sandu of the Montreal Rangers in the LHJAAAQ having a lower GAA.

The performance by the Red Wings so far hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the country, either. The Red Wings were included in the honourable mentions for the CJHL’s Top 20 Rankings. This is the first time since the 2015-16 season the Red Wings have been included in the rankings.

The game at 7:00 p.m. tonight could prove to be a challenge for the Red Wings. Notre Dame is still looking for their first win of the season and is coming off a tough weekend on the road against Sherwood Division opponents. The Red Wings will not want to make the mistake of taking their opponent lightly as they get set for the matchup and they try to extend their streak to four wins in a row.
