The Johnston triplets of Griffin are celebrating their birthdays today and tomorrow.

Three years ago today, Trevor and Danielle Johnston were about to experience the unexpected early delivery of Karlee, Liam and Jack.

However, they might have at least expected them to be born on the same date.

"Karlee's birthday is today, so the 16th, and the boys' is tomorrow. So Karlee was born between like 10:30 and 11:00, and the boys were born at 2:00 in the morning, 2:10 and 2:12," she shared, noting that the early deliveries that night were a shock due to Danielle having just been for an ultrasound earlier that day, with plans to book her in for a C-section a couple of weeks later.

Now a family of nine, the Johnstons had been waiting for the boys to come out of NICU and were staying in a camper outside of Regina, as they had been prior to the births. This spared them all the tremendous risk of being at home when their residence in Griffin went up in flames.

The Weyburn and area community rallied around the Johnstons, and they were able to deal with their newfound struggles and be back home in time for Christmas.

"We definitely are very lucky. We had a a lot of people helping us, and if we didn't have that, I don't even know where it would be. Just the fact that the contractor in Griffin overseeing the whole house getting built. He was just amazing. A wealth of knowledge."

She said the three get plenty of attention in public.

"I'd never seen triplets until I had them," noted Danielle. "It's just so cute. You know, you see all those little two-year-old, I guess three-year-old now, blonde heads in the shopping cart, it's hard to not just look at them and think, 'oh my goodness, those are special little creatures'."

While Karlee is the smallest, she takes care of her brothers.

"She's also the smallest by like quite a bit. The boys are very big boys, and she's just a tiny little flower. But don't let that fool you, because she's little but mighty. And she's the ringleader. So she she was the first to potty train and then she helped me potty train those boys."

She said Karlee calls Liam and Jack, 'babies' instead of by their names.

Liam, said Danielle, "is the most sweetest, kindest, polite little boy, always like 'please', 'thank you'. He loves tractors and mechanics and that sort of thing."

"Jack, he is my snuggler. He's just the most sweetest little guy, always wants to like sit on your lap. And both boys are like that, but Jack will tell you every once in a while, he's like, 'I love you'. But he's also the one who will climb the ladder, or, you know, the one who's a little more adventurous. So you gotta keep really good tabs on Jack."

Liam and Jack, she noted, "watch the two older brothers a lot and they pretty much do whatever they do so they're going to be carbon copies of them."

Danielle added they are celebrating the triplets' birthdays, and plan to in the future, with as much emphasis on each child's individuality as possible.
