The Weyburn Fire Department made a super exciting announcement earlier this week.

They are going to help kids celebrate their birthdays!

Due to restrictions currently in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many children aren't getting to celebrate their birthday with friends and family like they normally would. So the Fire Department is stepping up to give them a special treat!

They will come by with one of the fire trucks, get the lights going and deliver a special gift, all while maintaining social distancing practices.

Local 6-year old Nash Metz was one of the first to get to celebrate this year.

"As a 6 year old, he was pretty devastated that his party had to be cancelled and this really brought a lot of joy to his day and I can't thank them enough!" commented his mom, Naomi. " They practiced social distancing really well and really made his day!"

"It is such a thoughtful thing to be offering for the children in our community through this time."

The celebrations are available, within Weyburn, upon request. You can call (306) 848-3240 or email dpoulin@weyburn.ca to arrange this special treat!
