The Weyburn Salvation Army food bank could be facing a tough fall, without some help from the community. With the return to school looming, they are expecting an increased demand in foods needed for lunches for children, in addition to their usual needs.

The community ministries co-ordinator with the Salvation Army in Weyburn, Jennifer Lorinczy, explained that there are some specific items needed for schoolchildren. They include healthy snack options, as well as easy lunches that can be quickly eaten, like canned pastas.

Lorinczy said there has been an upswing in the demand for juice boxes, granola bars, and canned fruit, in addition to the other items that they regularly distribute. The food bank in Weyburn is currently helping 100 people a month. That is up from this time last year, when it was 50, and a large jump from 20 just a few years ago.

Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army on 4th Street in Weyburn. Donations are also being accepted right now for the Back To School program.
