The first round of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship didn’t quite go how Weyburn’s Graham DeLaet likely hoped for.

In his second appearance back on the PGA Tour since missing a substantial amount of time with back injuries, DeLaet fired off a 6-over 78 on the first day of the tournament, putting him in a tie for 139th on the leaderboard.

DeLaet started off the round Thursday on the back nine, where he ran into trouble off the tee, finding the rough and a few bunkers. He would finish up the first half of the course 4-over. On the front nine, he found himself in a similar situation and would finish the day 6-over.

DeLaet was back on the course early Friday morning, in one of the first groups to resume play at the tournament, and he was swinging the club with authority to start things off.

DeLaet would birdie holes 1, 4 and 7, while bogeying 6. Through the first seven holes of the day, he was 2-under, and improved to 128th overall on the leaderboard. His work is cut out for him, though, as the projected cut line is 2-under.

We will be providing updates on DeLaet’s play at the tournament throughout the weekend, on-air and online.
