History was made in the Canadian Hockey League Friday night.

When Weyburn’s Alex Clarke stepped onto the ice as a linesperson for the preseason game between the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Regina Pats, she became the first woman to officiate a game at that level in Canada.

Clarke already had an impressive resume heading into the game Friday. In addition to being a regular face around the rink in Weyburn, where she has called games for a number of years, she has also been an official in the SJHL. Her work in the SJHL, as well as the PJHL, USports and at the U18 AAA level didn’t go unnoticed, and Clarke was selected in recent years to work at the international level.

She has officiated at the World Women’s Hockey Championships at a number of levels, most recently at the top level when she was selected for the championships played in Calgary over the summer.

With her first game under the belt, she will be a part of the WHL’s Officiating team for the 2021-22 season.
