To say Weyburn was impressed by its newest facility is likely an understatement.

The Grand Opening Celebration of the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre saw upwards of 2,000 people through the door on Saturday.

"I heard a lot of 'wow's, and, 'am I in Weyburn?', and just the overall positivity of the day was amazing," shared Ryan Dale, Manager of Leisure Services with the City of Weyburn.

"The staff, our great volunteers, our sponsors, everyone, the community coming out showing their support, wow, it was something else," he expressed. "I'm personally I'm from Niagara Falls, and that was one of the coolest events I've been a part of, it was absolutely amazing."

Dale said it 'ran like a finely-tuned orchestra', even with the combination of a grand opening event and the City's Culture Days events.

"You got a little bit of everything that day. I think it was just amazing. It was an absolute all hands on deck situation for a great event, and I really think the community embraced the day. I saw a lot of laughter, a lot of giggles, a lot of smiles. So I think the community really enjoyed the day."

The numbers were tallied based on a clicker system, with everyone coming through the doors also being given a hand stamp for re-entry.

"Based on my estimations, I believe we had about just over fifteen hundred, or maybe closer to two thousand people in the doors," reported Dale. "That's different people. We had people coming in and out all day, but that is pretty awesome."

He explained they also had to be mindful of the capacity limits, but the facility did manage to show Weyburn what the Spark Centre is all about.

"I think that was the coolest part of the event, was being able to show what this facility was built for, and that's bringing culture, recreation, and sport all together," he noted. "That was the whole point of putting Culture Days with the grand opening, was to show the best of everything."

Dale added such a successful event would not have been possible without the 'great staff and the volunteers that day'.

"So thank you to them," he expressed.
