The Saskatchewan Party Leadership debate was in Weyburn on Thursday evening. Reaction to the event has come in from Weyburn and Area MLA.

"I think it was great, we had a great night here in Weyburn, I think we had a really good turn out. All the candidates did a great job of talking about their policies and the direction they want to take the party and the province," explained Dustin Duncan, MLA for Weyburn-Big Muddy.

"I think overall it was a very successful night for the party and great to see a really strong turn out of sask party members and a lot of new sask party members, a lot of people who maybe have held memberships in the past and maybe let them lapse and some new people too. Overall it was a really great night."

Duncan was asked if there were any surprises to the answers given.

"I don't think that there were a lot of surprises. I think that surprises are probably best for birthday parties and not necessarily for politics. I think that for the most part, everybody has articulated clear policies."

"Over the last couple of months as the candidates have been in, they've differentiated themselves in terms of the different policies."

Duncan said that people are starting to think about what it means to work together after the leadership race is finished.

"For me, I was really encouraged that all candidates indicated that their priority is going to be ensuring we are positioned to be successful in 2020."

Duncan added that events like this can divide a party but all of the candidates are committed to ensuring that regardless of who wins they'll come back together and keep focused on the real goal and for the Saskatchewan Party, Duncan said that's success in 2020 in the next provincial election.
