This Wednesday is the Red Cross Day of Pink. 11 years ago two boys stood up against bullying behaviour in their school in Nova Scotia. A male student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The next day the whole school was filled with students wearing pink shirts.

This week to raise awareness the Red Cross is encouraging students across Canada to wear pink to school to help end bullying. In Weyburn, schools and their students are also taking part.

Cody Prevost, the award-winning Canadian country music artist will be performing in Weyburn on Friday to help with the message of the harm bullying causes to peoples lives.

"You turn on the news and you hear these sad stories about tragic events that are occurring in these small towns and it just really moves something inside you to want to make a change and make a difference in some way," explained Prevost.

The first performance is going to be at St Michaels School at 9:30 am with the second performance at the Cugnet Centre at 1:30 pm.

Prevost said he is looking forward to taking part and this is not the first time he has been involved in raising awareness to the issues around bullying.

"We did a tour called "Imagine, No Bullying" and its basically where I went out with a good friend of mine, Stephen Maguire and we went to schools around the province and we brought the Red Cross with us and spoke to the kids about bullying and the problem that's out there today in schools and communities."

Bullying can have a negative effect on the lives of students beyond their time in school.
