The Weyburn Skating Club is reaching out to young leaders to lend their support to this year's skating program. In an exciting new development, the club has teamed up with Hockey Weyburn to offer skating lessons to PreCanSkate, CanSkate, and Power Skating members.

Erin Goodfellow, the club's President, expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration, saying, "We're very excited that we will be offering both CanSkate and Power Skating to Hockey Weyburn Skaters, as well as our regular programming,”

As a result of this partnership, the club is seeking young individuals to assist in the program as Program Assistants. Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with additional class time allocated for the Power Skaters.

Program Assistants can be as young as nine years old. Erin provided more insight into their roles, explaining, "Program Assistants follow the lesson plans set out by the coaches. They serve as an extra pair of hands on the ice, providing assistance to our young club members who are just beginning to learn how to skate."

She emphasized the significance of these Program Assistants, noting, "Another thing that is really important for these Program Assistants is that they're looked up to by the little skaters, so they are little mentors out there on the ice and that is great to see."

Before becoming a Program Assistant, individuals are required to attend a workshop, scheduled for this Sunday, September 24, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. To register, interested individuals can visit the Weyburn Skating Club Facebook page or email registrarweyburnskate@gmail.com.
