It will be a busy night at City Hall, as Weyburn City Council meets in chambers tonight. The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m.

The agenda will include a number of motions, including one which has generated a lot of conversation in Weyburn. Council will be voting on a motion introduced by Councillor Dick Michel to have the remuneration of council members increased by 8.5 percent effective January 1st. The reason for the motion is to compensate councillors when a federal law which will remove the one-third tax exemption for elected officials takes effect.

There will also be a look at making some changes to the Council Procedures bylaw. The proposed changes, which came about after the Council Retreat in September, will reduce the time frame to submit items for the council agenda, allowing for strategic planning and priorities meetings to be held after all regular council meetings, and pluralizing youth members to allow more than one appointed to youth council.

Council will also look at some proposed changes to the Refuse bylaw.

We will have full coverage of the meeting Tuesday morning, on-air and online.
