A man now residing in British Columbia has been found guilty of assault in Weyburn Provincial Court. The verdict was delivered Tuesday morning by Judge Kovach.

Richard Allan Johnson was facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, and uttering threats. The court heard that in July of 2015, Johnson, along with Bryson Bain, had chased down Steven Sanderson in the city, and assaulted him along 3rd Street, just south of Highway 39. The incident was witnessed in part by an officer with the Weyburn Police Service, and ended shortly before the officer pulled up in her cruiser with lights and siren on.

In his decision, Judge kovach found Johnson guilty of the assault charge, and not guilty of the uttering threats charge. In his written decision, Kovach explained that there was no evidence to support the uttering threats charge against Johnson presented at trial.

The case will return to Weyburn Provincial Court October 25th, when Kovach will hear sentencing submissions.
