The provincial government announced Friday afternoon the timeline for the eligibility of second doses of COVID-19 vaccines was to be sped up considerably, thanks to increased shipments of vaccines, Moderna in particular.

The government has now set a goal of having the age eligibility for second doses of a vaccine down to those 12 and older by June 24th, with the only other factor to determine eligibility being the length of time passed since the first dose was administered. It was stated, though, the timelines may change due to vaccine eligibility.

When all those 12 and older are eligible for their second doses on June 24th, then the vaccines will be administered according to the manufacturer’s interval. The interval for the Moderna vaccine is 28 days, and it is 21 days for the Pfizer vaccine.

Currently, everyone in Saskatchewan over the age of 12 is eligible to receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and those over the age of 55 are eligible to receive their second dose. When getting a second dose of a vaccine, the clinic or pharmacy will validate the timing and brand of your first dose to make sure you are receiving it within the proper time frame.
