A criminal in the area making the jobs of the Weyburn Police Service easier last week when he turned himself in. On July 15, the man walked into the Police Station and following a quick search the WPS executed a Warrant for him.

It is a rare occurrence when someone turns themselves in and it's even rarer when it was a such a serious offence.

"This was a person who had been subject to a federal prison sentence in likely Prince Albert. Was out on parole, and obviously did something to breach the conditions of his parole and came to turn himself in," explained Deputy Police Chief Rod Stafford.  "We don't know whether that was because his parole officer suggested that's what he do, so they could get a handle on things and get the clock restart. Or, whether he just had a guilty conscience."

The WPS did not include any more details of his offence or how long his sentence was.

Stafford added they may only see cases like this a few times a year.
