The Weyburn Comp will be one of many empty schools on Thursday

The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation announced all STF members will be withdrawing full professional and voluntary services on Thursday in order to take part in a one-day study day and rally. Teachers will return to full professional and voluntary services on Friday.

Currently, teachers with a four-year degree starting out in Saskatchewan earn $7,500 less a year than the Western Canadian average. After 10 years of service, that number increases to $9,400 less than the Western Canadian average.

Teachers have been engaged in a protracted negotiation process for the last 11 months and have been without a contract since August 31, 2010. In a provincewide vote on April 13, Saskatchewan teachers expressed overwhelming support for sanctions.
