The SJHL released the year-end Divisional Award winners, with many Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wing fans shocked at what many feel was an omission.

The divisional awards are selected by the coaches within the division, as they vote for the players from the other teams in their own division they feel is most worthy of the award. From there, the year-end league award winners are determined.

In the Viterra Division, many were expecting rookie goaltender Joseph Young of the Red Wings to receive either the Rookie of the Year nod for the division or the Goaltender of the Year in the division. While his win-loss record wasn’t the same as some of the other goaltenders in the league, Young came into the week with the best goals-against average in the SJHL, and the best save percentage. He also leads the way with four shutouts.

However, it was Young who was shutout of the awards.

The Rookie of the Year nod for the Viterra Division went to Griffin Asham-Moroz of the Estevan Bruins, while the Goaltender of the Year was Berk Berkeliev.

The other award winners in the Viterra Division were Chantz Petruic of the Yorkton Terriers, who was named the Player of the Year and the MVP, while Devan Harrison from the Estevan Bruins was named Defenceman of the Year.
