At last week’s meeting of Weyburn City Council, the approval was given for the closure of Eighth Avenue southwest, just north of Minard’s Leisure World.

Owner Gene Minard said Minard’s Leisure World plans to purchase the land from the City in order to expand their RV lot for winter storage.

“We use Eighth Avenue now to enter from the north of our place,” he said, noting that delivery trucks and new RV units arrive from that direction. “We just want to extend our fence over past Eighth Avenue so then we can access it from our main lot and not have a separate area, so it all becomes one lot then.”

“Up til now we’ve been storing 100 about for our customers,” said Minard.

He said that by the time they have finished installing fences and gates in the yard, they hope to be able to accommodate upwards of 300 RV units for winter storage.

“We’re going to buy the land between Eighth Avenue up to Seventh Avenue, not including Seventh Avenue,” he explained. “We’re also experiencing a higher request for winter storage of units. So, those people if they don’t have a friend or a farmer or something like that, they have to put it somewhere.”

“So there’s options around town,” said Minard. “We’re just going to expand their options.”

Minard said the winter storage capacity will likely not be ready for this impending winter.
