Veterans Don Goranson, flying officer in 415 squadron; Howard Schmidt, private in the South Saskatchewan Regiment; John Hearn, corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Force; and Jim Richards, trooper, gathered at the Cenotaph recently to prepare for the Remembrance Day ceremony in Weyburn.


The country, and the people of Weyburn, will pause on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to honour veterans who gave so much to their country.

Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place in Weyburn on Monday at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park and the Royal Canadian Legion.

Parade participants will line up behind the Legion at 10:30 a.m. with the parade to begin its march towards the Cenotaph at 10:45 a.m. A short program will follow, including two minutes of silence at 11 a.m., the Reveille, and the laying of the wreaths. The first wreath will be laid by local war mother Vera Murray, followed by dignitaries, groups, businesses and individuals.

The service concludes inside the Legion, with keynote speaker Keith Inches, curator of the War Museum, as well as greetings from the Royal Canadian Legion, and local, provincial and federal government representatives. Community choir Variations will entertain and donations will be taken for the Poppy Trust Fund. The service will be followed by the War Mother's Tea.
