Matt Eng, Jacob Jeske, Brandon Volpe and Alex Bechtold watch the action on the ice in Game 4 of their series against Humboldt.

Tonight, the Weyburn Red Wings will find out their next opponent in the SJHL playoffs. The Wings advanced with a 3-1 victory over the Humboldt Broncos in their best-of-five wild card series Tuesday night.

The game this evening between the Estevan Bruins and the Battlefords North Stars will be the deciding factor. The two teams meet in the Battlefords in game five of their best-of-five series. If the Battlefords win, then Weyburn will be off to Melfort tomorrow to face the Mustangs. If the Bruins come out on top, then the Wings will travel to Kindersley. No matter the opponent, it should be a good series.

The Mustangs finished the league in top spot, and were led by Travis Mayan, the league's MVP and top scorer. The second year player recorded 84 points over the season, and was a big reason for their success. As well, Melfort was led by strong goaltending throughout the year. That said, while they blew out a number of teams this season, Weyburn wasn't among that number. The Red Wings skated to a 1-1-2 record against the Mustangs in the season series. All of the games were decided by one goal, two in overtime, with the Wings and Mustangs each getting a regulation time victory as well. Goaltending was a strong part of all four games, and the Wings will also be looking to keep up their strong powerplay, which went 6-for-15 in the series against the Broncos.

As for the Kindersley Klippers, the Kramer Division champions finished second overall in the league. Goaltender Evan Weninger was named SJHL goaltender of the year, and was strong in net all season for the Klippers. The Wings didn't fare as well against Kindersley as they did Melfort in the opening parts of the season, losing 4-1 in Kindersley in November, then 7-2 in Weyburn before the Christmas break. The final two games between the teams were closer, with the Wings winning one game at home in overtime, then falling in a shootout on February 28th. There is also a bit of history between the two teams, going back to 2011. A playoff series between the two teams got very heated, complete with a stick swinging incident in game two. The intensity hasn't died down between the squads either, as every game is hard-hitting with an edge.

No matter who the Red Wings face in the next round, it will be entertaining. The first game, regardless of opponent, will be Friday night at 7:30 p.m. You can catch all the action on Red Wing Radio, AM1190, starting with the pregame show at 7:20 p.m.
