The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings announced a trade over the weekend.

The team acquired 03-born defenseman Sam Boldt from the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL.

Originally hailing from Regina, Boldt split his time last season between the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL and the Centennials. Appearing in 37 Junior A games last year, he picked up six points, including two goals.

Boldt should be a familiar face in the locker room for a number of players with the Red Wings. He played U18 hockey with Jackson Fellner, Kirk Mullen, Carter Wickenheiser and Dazza Mitchell.

Going back to Merritt as part of the deal is a player development fee.
