The provincial budget presented earlier this week has stirred up reaction from multiple sectors of the community including the business community.

"All in all it was pretty lacklustre, sort of a grey budget, not a lot of excitement in it but a good budget," said Larry Heggs, President, Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

"Whenever you can 'not raise tax' it is the next best thing to reducing tax and they didn't really raise taxes."

In the budget it was announced there will be PST charged on second-hand vehicles costing over $5,000 in value and not attributed to changing of ownership within families.

"There's definitely impact there, for sure, vehicles are a large expenditure. Fortunately, they are not something that people have to go out and buy every week like milk or gas."

There has also been a new tax added to EnergyStar appliances.

"If the numbers I have read correctly, I think the province was hoping to generate $98 million of those two items."

The Chamber meets with Dustin Duncan today (Friday) in Weyburn for members only. They will be discussing the budget and unpack more of what it means for Weyburn businesses.
