The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came out of the gate with momentum as they took on the Battlefords North Stars Wednesday night at Crescent Point Place. The Wings would score the first goal, but then the momentum swung in the other direction, with the North Stars scoring seven straight goals to skate to a 7-1 victory.

Cooper Chisholm opened the scoring for the Red Wings at the 7:02 mark. The Weyburn native snapped home a feed from Matthew Reidy, finding the net behind Battlefords goaltender Austin Schwab. Nolan Henderson had the other assist on the goal.

The teams would head to the locker room with Weyburn up 1-0, but the second period would see things shift in favour of the North Stars.

The middle period had the Battlefords put 23 shots on the Weyburn net, with Jackson Fellner turning aside all but two of them. The first one to get past him was scored by Ryland McNinch at 8:42 of the period. Then, with 7:48 left to play, Zane Florence would score to give the North Stars the lead.

The third period would then see McNinch score his second of the game just 13 seconds in, making it 3-1 for the North Stars.

In an effort to help spark some momentum, Reidy would drop the gloves with Easton Rask of the North Stars. The spirited tilt saw both players landing some heavy punches. They would each receive a five-minute major and game misconduct, with Reidy also getting an additional two minutes for instigating the altercation.

The North Stars would seem to be the ones to gain the momentum, though, as they would score four more goals in the second half of the period. Jake Southgate scored at the 9:43 mark. Then, Colby Bear beat Fellner with 6:46 to play. Emmett Wurst tallied with 2:37 on the clock, and then, with 0.1 seconds to play, Sam Witt scored to make it 7-1 for the North Stars.

The Red Wings will now get set for their next game Friday night as they welcome the Estevan Bruins to Crescent Point Place. The puck drops on the game at 7:30 p.m.
