A search of the Weyburn Landfill for a suspected dead infant has come up with no results.

The Weyburn City Police held a public search yesterday with many members of the community participating. Weyburn Police Chief Howard Georgeson says, "as the Police Chief I would personally like to thank all the citizens who came out to help with the search of the landfill yesterday for the baby that is reportedly missing, obviously and it was so nice. We had over 60 people out there yesterday ranging in age from 20 to 80 years old and you know, I'm so proud of each and everyone of them. They worked so diligently and effectively, did a very thorough search of the area that we were interested in and I'm sure as everybody knows at this point we still have not located the infant."

Georgeson also says, "as far as the police are concerned at this point the landfill search from the police aspect is done. We will be researching other avenues obviously and the investigation continues and if we have to attend back out there some day, of course we will. We are a long way from concluding the investigation, but the landfill search at this point is concluded."

33 year-old Angela Vermeulen of Weyburn is facing charges with disposing of a dead body of a child and interfering with the indignity of human remains after someone allegedly observed the body of a newborn in the garbage of a residence on Coteau Avenue in Weyburn.

If convicted, Vermeulen could face a maximum sentence of just under seven years in prison for those two charges.

Vermeulen is scheduled to appear in a Weyburn courtroom on June 1st.
