The Board of Education for South East Cornerstone Public School Division met yesterday at the Division building in Weyburn.

It was the first meeting for new board members, Jim Vermeersch, Estevan Seat, and Brandon Tichkowsky, Weyburn Seat.

"It was very exciting, a little nervous but I calmed down and went through a lot of information. My head was swimming at different points but I got back on track quickly, trying to keep following along with some of the information, there was a lot of information today," explained Tichkowsky.

The pair of new board members had an orientation day last week to go through the policies and procedures of the board.

Tichkowsky said the other members of the board are a friendly and good group of people to work alongside with.

One of the presentations in yesterdays meeting gave the new members a better idea of what opportunities there are for students in the schools.

"I really liked the direction we are heading regarding the students and providing opportunities for students to get work experience and getting ahead with credit and opportunities to gain credits towards college programs in advance. I think that being able to diversify what we are teaching in our classrooms helps our students in the real world and get ahead as they can if they so desire."

Tichkowsky also mentioned the enthusiasm and desire of the staff who presented in the meeting and how it was good to see and shows the quality of people in education in SECPSD.
