We have also been told the workers have all chosen to resign today.

According to one of the lifeguards, who wishes to remain anonymous, the reason for the walkout is due to better wages.

The walkout comes with just two days left for swimming lessons for the children.

Mayor Button says with two days remaining in two weeks of lessons, they should have a good idea of how the children were doing and adds a lifeguard will be coming back to resume lessons and go over the report cards.

However, if a child was struggling, the city will bring them back at the cities expense.

Mayor Button says that last year, the C.U.P.E Union negotiated a contract for the lifeguards, which was signed and expires December 31st in 2008.
