The Weyburn Fire Department is adding to it's fleet.

The Fire Department has been approved by City Council for a 2011 Rescue/Pumper and a 2011 Tanker/Pumper.

Weyburn Mayor Debra Button says, "approval for these major pieces of equipment was long overdue. We tried to get a capital budget in place and start accumulating funds into that for several years and I know when budgets are tight, that was things council has cut over the years to keep that mill rate low. Now it's coming home to roost and we are paying the piper so to speak. Those pieces of equipment are critical to fight fires and save lives and protect the people of Weyburn and surrounding area."

The Fire Department had been asking for this equipment and Button says, "we felt it was necessary. The volunteers wrote us a letter a couple of months ago and we gave the Fire Chief the go ahead to move forward with proposals. One part of it will be coming in December and hopefully we see the other part come in the early part of Spring next year."

The cost for the two new pieces of equipment is around $646,000 and Button says money should not come into question when it mean's lives could be saved.
